Give your time, your words, your presence. Carrying out acts of kindness, whether small or large, can increase happiness, and wellbeing.
Sometimes it is just the simple things like welcoming someone into a place or opening a door for them. Offer to help a neighbour take out their rubbish or bring in their shopping. Sometimes people will not ask for help, but we all need a little help in our lives.
Visit someone who is not well or going through a bad time. Just being with someone and giving them your time and attention can make such a difference.
Share your skills with others. From cooking to playing the guitar. From knowing how to use a computer to taking a photo. Everyone has knowledge, skills and passion that they can give to the community.
Talk and listen – feel connected.
Reach out to someone who may be lonely and invite them to spend time with you. Meet in one of the communal spaces, walk to the local park or invite them along to an event you are going to.
Connect with others over celebrations or host a small event or send a birthday message.
Introduce yourself to others at communal dinners, working bees or activities. Build relationships and connections through conversations.
Embrace new experiences – try something new or rediscover an old interest. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving.
Start learning a musical instrument or rediscover your love for music. You could ask for someone to help you practice or join a band.
Learn a new skill – it could be anything from learning how to change a fix a bike to caring for plants, to helping out at a communal event. Reach out to the community, we all have different things to share and teach others.
Learn more cooking tips or how to use different equipment like a slow cooker. Share your gardening or fishing skills with others. Join in one of the communal cooking dinners and share your knowledge.
